  1. Developer’s blog 2 Iliya Over the past week, we’ve been busy finalizing the transfer of all special equipment to a new “skeleton”. Now the manipulators can be used by ladies as well: I’ve also finished introducing all armor suits into the game. At the moment, over 50 suits are ready: We’ve also decided to rework the animation of some mechs and add new animations for mutants. To do that, we’ve standardized meshes for one “skeleton”: Svetlana I’ve continued bringing more creatures over to Avalon, making the fauna on the planet even more diverse. Diggers have new relatives: a spitter, a she-digger and a bomb digger. Alexander Apart from some small stuff, like images on the website, finishing touches to the interface, loading screen and some work on improving locations, we’ve expanded the abilities of diggers (that have already been realized as game models). Very soon, enemies in the game will learn to cooperate with one another and use different special abilities. If a regular worker digger knows only how to bite things, then a she-digger can sting you at a distance with great precision and give a boost to all fellow diggers around it. A spitter, as follows from the name, can spit sticky and toxic substance that stuns a character. A delay in killing a spitter can lead to a big damage when confronting even weak diggers. And if during a battle we hear a buzzing noise, we should be on the lookout for bomb diggers. They are weak and are extremely easy to kill but if they manage to run up to you, they’ll go off, blowing your brains out. In addition to small beetles, our lab has produced a beetle of a larger size. It doesn’t look quite like an insect but it will make a good pet. This species will be extremely rare in the game and will only be given to a few people from those who support us over the next two months after the countdown on the website stops. Not only will this pet allow for precision fire and indulging yourself in some destructive activities, but it will also serve as a mount. And you will be able to attack enemies without dismounting, which is not possible in case with regular transport.
  2. It's official: The newly revitalized Firefall is due to release its first major update, Elemental Destruction, next week -- on Tuesday, in fact. The patch is bringing new dynamic encounters in addition to abilities and weapons. And if you're a Firefall nut, then today is your day because Red 5 Design Director RudiKazootie has penned an exclusive dev blog discussing in detail the five new dynamic encounters being introduced with the update. Enjoy the full read and new screens below, and keep an eye out for Friday's edition too. Firefall Dev Blog: Announcing 'Elemental Destruction' (Part 1) Hello Firefall Pilots! RudiKazootie here, Design Director of Firefall. I'm excited to announce the release of Elemental Destruction (Version 1.1 of Firefall) for next Tuesday, September 16th. In Elemental Destruction, you will experience five additional dynamic encounters throughout the open world, the hardcore version of our Kanaloa the Destroyer Titan Battle, an array of new weapons and prefixes unlike any of your Operators have ever seen, awesome new abilities, numerous quality of life updates, and much more. Today, I'd like to tell you about the awesome new dynamic encounters being added, and the hardcore version of Kanaloa. Dynamic Events Dynamic content in Firefall is often regarded as one of the most exciting aspects of the game. As you venture throughout the open world and its vast continents, you really never know what you're going to run into around the next turn; however, you do know that you're going to get paid and rewarded handsomely for participating and fulfilling the goal of each encounter. In Elemental Destruction, the five additional dynamic encounters that you'll be encountering are Crossfire, Piñata Frenzy, Chosen Death Squad, Caldera Crèche, and Civilian Rescue. Dynamic events serve a vital role in the design of Firefall. Not only do they make the world feel alive and exciting, but they also bolster other game content like ARES Jobs and Missions you find in the world. As you travel between these, dynamic events serve as fun chance encounters to break up the content flow and add gameplay variety to play sessions. The trick is to find the correct balance in the frequency of dynamic encounters so that they are easy to find and consume, yet not so frequent they become an obstacle between the player and the content goals they're chasing. Crossfire Spoilers! Crossfire is being introduced in our brand-new Live Event that we'll be announcing tomorrow on, Codename: Crossfire. While venturing throughout the open world in areas other than Devil's Tusk, you'll have a chance to come across Accord Soldiers who are being ambushed by a squad of Bandits. If spotted in Devil's Tusk, the soldiers will be facing Chosen. You'll need to protect the Accord to get paid. In a second version of the encounter that has a random chance to spawn, you may come across the Chosen engaging in a firefight with the Ophanim in Devil's Tusk, or Bandits elsewhere in the world – defeat all enemies to get rewarded for your efforts. While this encounter is currently part of the special Live Event, once it's over, it will exclusively appear as a random encounter in Devil's Tusk. Both versions of this encounter really reinforce the feel of the player is part of a larger battle in a world that doesn't necessarily revolve around them. Instead of initiating a battle, they come across one already in progress. With the Accord v Bandits or Chosen, it's easy to know whose side you're on – so get shooting some hostile faces. With Chosen v Ophanim, it gets a lot more complicated on who to help as they're both your enemies. The good news is you still get to shoot things in the face. Piñata Frenzy In Piñata Frenzy, a broken down MGV's radio has attracted a pack of dancing loot piñatas. These mechanical robots are known for carrying items of great value, and stopping them in their tracks gives you a chance to loot them. You've got to act quickly though, as these machines are fast to scamper off at the first sign of danger. This encounter can be found throughout Coral Forest and Sertao. Chosen Death Squad Chosen Death Squads have been spotted in Devil's Tusk. These groups of walking death and destruction can appear when you least expect it, and when they do, you'll be marked for death. We just hope you'll be able to run fast or stand your ground and fight, for if you do, the rewards are quite grand. We return the Chosen Death Squads to our live content with some excitement. It was a hard decision to stow this encounter, but I felt it was necessary to remove them from areas newer players would encounter them. Devil's Tusk is a much better fit due to the Chosen theme and tougher environment for our veteran players. I still think the whispering is creepy though -- just sayin'. Caldera Crèche More strange sightings are being reported in Devil's Tusk, including the emergence of erupting crèches near the volcano. While we're still unsure if the rings some of you have been throwing in it have been causing the increased activity, you'll be tasked with destroying one if you come across it. With that said, we should also caution you to beware of Caldera Dragons. Yup. They hurt. Civilian Rescue Unfortunately, Bandit activity has also increased in Coral Forest, and instead of your loot, they have been capturing civilians for ransom. As the Accord has a stance against negotiating with Bandits, it will be up to you to rescue the civilians as you learn of their capture. Do so and you'll be rewarded for their safe return. Kanaloa the Destroyer As I mentioned above, we're also adding a hardcore version of our Kanaloa the Destroyer Titan Battle. For those who have not experienced the wrath of this melded lava worm yet, Kanaloa is a Melding Titan whose lair lies at the heart of the Devil's Tusk volcano. Its nest is in the pool of lava contained within, and let's just say it does not like visitors – and its evil twin (hardcore Kanaloa) REALLY doesn't like visitors. While there are elevated platforms throughout, they leave little room to run from the fire that rains down during battle, especially when the lava begins to rise. In the hardcore version of this Titan Battle, we've expanded on the mechanics of the normal fight and have made them harder, but not in the sense that only extra damage is dealt. Having actual gameplay changes for this mode keeps players thinking on their feet (or jumpjets) and helps mix things up for them. I suggest becoming a veteran of the normal version, and to be even more careful when in the hardcore version. You'll want to bring others who are as experienced as you if you even want a chance at defeating this boss. In addition to bragging rights, you'll have the chance to obtain new epic gear upon a successful completion. I can't wait for you to experience Kanaloa, and you may even see me LFG as I'd love to team up with our players to attempt to defeat it. You may be sorry you did though... Stay tuned for another Dev Blog from me on Friday where we'll delve into the aforementioned, brand-new assortment of incredible weapons that will become available in v1.1. Until then, see you in-game! Scott "RudiKazootie" Rudi Design Director of Firefall Originally posted here.

  7. Will the Timed Conflict town alteration be for all of the Conflict towns in the Blood Sports patch, or just the five? [Marie] Only Gallows, Tinkersdam, Hollister Point, The Dump, Fender Gate and Waste Farm will be Timed Conflict towns. Will there be any other mounts? One with wheels, like a bike or truck? [Wes] There's nothing inherently bad about having creatures like Blight Wolves and Prairie Chickens as mounts. They are distinctly Fallen Earth in flavor. However, that doesn't mean that the last modes of transportation you see coming from us will be Blight Wolves and Prairie Chickens. We also love the idea of new and interesting mechanical vehicles, especially the prospect of carrying passengers. Is construction being expanded in the upcoming months/year? *cough* player owned houses maybe? *cough* [Wes] Yes, construction will be expanded as the game continues to evolve. Yes, we are dead set on providing player housing. What shape that system will take is still a matter of some development. Noticed the wasteland mutt has 'storage slots" in info tab, are there plans for pets with storage down the line? [Wes] Curses, you noticed! Yes, indeed, we do have plans to provide pets with storage space. The new mutt was a sort of proof-of-concept for that functionality. Now that we've got the basics down, we'll start thinking about shining it up. Will the outlaw system or pvp flag be coming? [Marie] We have plans for the outlaw system but nothing carved in stone yet. If you want to go after someone sooner, Clan Wars will be live with 1.4! Basically I want to know everything that's happening with tradeskills, I'm specifically interested in construction and nature [Wes] Right! Everything about tradeskills in 140 characters or less: It's evolving. We've added some new goodies that you'll see in Patch 1.4. More to come. Has the dev team thought any more on player housing and if so, what form will it take / have you thought about? [Marie] We love thinking about player housing. There are several ways we can approach it, so we don't want to release any info until we're sure with the direction we are going! When do I get my rainbow robot unicorn mount? [Marie] Right after I get mine. What I would like to know is future of construction and travel between cities? Trains, buses, subways? [Wes] We recognize the need for faster travel possibilities. We just have to work on a balance between player convenience and the sense of scope that we've sought to establish in the expansive environment of @Fallen Earth. Whatever we do, it'll probably involve the large barter towns as travel hubs. With nature, I'm interested in the two new mounts, the prairie chicken and the blight wolf, are they going to be nature based? [Wes] The Blight Wolf mount is based on making friends with the Shiva's Favored in Deadfall, by completing a series of missions for them. We're not set on the requirements for the Prairie Chicken just yet. Nature's certainly not an unreasonable idea. I am trying to navigate from s1 to s3 <yawn> fast travel please devs? [Marie] We are working on limited fast travel. Also, without giving anything away, do you see crafting becoming a stronger profession? [Marie] Crafting is such an integral part of our game, it's not something we're just going to let slide as we implement new features. Exactly how it’s going to be incorporated into those features, well, you’ll have to wait and see! Ya bee's need to be lowered in speed, I was told no mob would be as fast as mounts, and they're as quick as horses [Marie] I have a rifle build, so I love sniping bees in Kaibab. They're one of my favorite mobs. Now that Hammock's gone, what changes have been made to the development of the game? (Worried about dramatic changes.) [Marie] No dramatic changes have been made to the future development. We have a great team in place who has been working on awesome content all along and we're going to continue working hard to make FE an incredible experience. [Wes] If Lee had worked on his own in a vacuum, I could see the need to worry. We're a small team, but we're not that small. @FallenEarth is a team effort and has been since 2006. It will continue to be so, no matter who's in charge. I've got a lot of confidence in the development team going forward. The game's only going to keep getting better. Since the construction mission in the PVP towns is broken on the PTS can you tell us what this is and does? [Marie] It's broken? I'll get right on that. The construction tiers build defenses around either the town or your faction camp. Is Deadfall coming to test live soon? [Marie] Yes! It will be here before you know it! [Wes] Deadfall should be on the Public Test Server tonight, but we'll have level-cheat NPCs and cheater teleports set up for the region tomorrow. Think we’ll get poker in game soon? [Wes] I hesitate to use words like "soon" with something like new features unless I've seen it well into development. We've got slots and blackjack, which proved we could have some varieties of casino games. We'll definitely want to look at other possibilities, from poker to roulette wheels. Control option for left/right turn key + right mouse button held = strafe? Can we get a camera POV directly behind the character as an option? [Wes] The team's definitely looking to make improvements to the user interface. No specifics yet, no guarantees, no timelines. I love you guys long time, is the auction system being merged with certain merchants so that they will sell items from the auction? [Marie]That would be interesting. We're always looking at ways to improve things like the Auction house. We just don't have any plans for it at this moment and umm...we love you too?! =) You know I am going to dream in spectator mode for Blood Sports the way you guys are talking about it! [Wes] It'd be a great feature to have. We'll see what we can do. I'd stand in the bleachers, yelling "Forty quatloos on the clone!"
