Hey Stickman - I'll see about getting my copy up-to-date....haven't played since last spring. This is a good weekend to play though as it is one of their golden eagle events http://warthunder.com/en/news/3502-special-golden-battles-this-sunday-en Good luck with grinding out a jet....unless things have changed dramatically, going thru tier 4 to get to tier 5 was the textbook definition of grind...surpassed only by the grind needed to actually get the enhancement modules for those tier 5 jets to make them competitive. But once upgraded, the jets are a lot of fun.
  2. I don't understand the belief that LEOs live under a different set of laws than the rest of us. Sure there are a few things specific to them due to the work they do and legislation the outlines their duties but in the vast majority of cases they are under the same laws as everyone else. And I really don't understand linking anything about the drug war or hyper-criminalization of low level drug offenses to them....as their name states, they enforce the law, they do not create it. Blame the drug war and hyper-criminalization on the <anti> leaders in DC...starting with Nixon and mishandled ever since. As for all of the cases recently in the news, I don't know what happened...and neither do you. I imagine some of the officers involved were in the wrong and I imagine some were in the right. I do know that every single news story that I have ever actually independently known the facts for has contained factual errors. And I have zero belief that the reporting for any of these incidents is any better - especially considering how mainstream media is more entertainment than news in many cases. As for the OP, keep in mind having an interaction on video is a two way street. In may help keep a 'bad' officer in line but it is also going to keep the 'citizen' from lodging false complaints since it is no longer merely a he said/she said situation. An a the article mentions, these 'upstanding citizens' are likely to be better behaved when they know they are on film so they are less likely to do something that requires the use of force. wrt BWCs, I think they are a great idea...primarily for the protection they'll afford the LEO. I'm actually working with BWC now...adding analytics to improve the value of the video captured for investigative purposes. So hopefully in the future, the captured video will be more than just a cya tool.
  3. The Imperial City DLC was released for PC. I haven't bought it yet as I'm still wrapping up the original content. Nice thing about it is that most of the dedicated PVP'rs seem to have moved to it which means I can get finish up the delves/skyshards in Cyrodiil without getting jumped.
  4. I'm not minding the vet level progression too much...am partway thru Caldwell's Gold and actually finding the progression too fast for the mobs I face. I like to complete everything in a zone and thus end up being a level or 2 above the mobs (e.g. am now v9 in the second main zone of Gold where the mobs are v7). The only real challenge is when I solo the public dungeons...while the mobs are still lower level than I, at least they make up for it in quantity....and the bosses are a bit more difficult. And I often go out of my way to avoid fighting world mobs unless I need to as part of the current quest (definitely no grinding). Also have only done 2 of the group dungeons in either Caldwell's....difficult to find anyone to group with. I'll periodically go thru each of the zones doing a zonal LFG but usually just get crickets for response. So for me at least, the progression is too fast for the zones. Does tend to make the action in Caldwell's a bit boring although I enjoy the storyline (and is great for crafters as there is little competition for resources - makes it a bit tough when you are slightly OCD and feel the need to harvest everything you come across). But a lot of people have complained about the vet progression so that is changing with the DLC coming out the end of Aug... 15% decrease in the amount of XP it takes to gain a Veteran Rank (will be 850K / level) 100% more XP for all public dungeons 50% more XP for all Veteran Rank quests 20% more XP in Craglorn
  5. Is anyone in the 47th still playing eso?
  6. Finally have a release time frame set for Oculus Rift..... http://www.pcworld.com/article/2918988/the-oculus-rift-consumer-model-will-launch-in-early-2016-after-valves-vr-headset.html
  7. I see Campbell received a reply from them...did everyone else that signed up get a response (as my question may imply, I haven't heard anything so wondering if my application actually made it to them)
  8. OK, thanks for the info. I signed up for the alpha as well
  9. Looks like it might be interesting. Were you able to find out how to actually buy early access? I go to the early access page but it appears to be a work in progress and doesn't have details on how much early access is nor how to actually buy it.

Winter events starting with WT. If you're interested in earning a free plane and/or tank, they'll be having daily tasks to complete. The event starts on the 25th of Dec (they don't specify time zone so that might be sometime today for those in NA). Details at: http://warthunder.com/en/news/2736-winter-holiday-special-number-one-en

Bump. Offer still stands concerning providing training and/or tips for flying in WT. Also on News, Gaijin announced that US tanks will be introduced with the next major patch (no ETA on that release though). Some info on the included tanks can be found at: http://warthunder.com/en/news/2588-steel-generals-premiere-ground-forces-of-the-usa-en NOTE: I won't be able to provide any useful tips/training for ground forces...haven't played them since the closed beta as I never really got hooked with them...strictly a flyboy in WT.
  12. I agree with Bealin. I backed at the Baron level and have access. Only played for about 30 minutes so far but was very happy with how well it ran considering it was pre-alpha. The graphics are excellent. Haven't tried any weapons yet as you don't start with anything and need to pay the archery master to use his bow at the range. You are supposed to be able to get a simple mission that will provide a bit of coin but I haven't gotten to that yet.

WT released the 1.43 patch. It added a number of new vehicles (gnd and air), a new air mode (racing), several new maps and a lot of fixes. The full list of changes is at http://devblog.warthunder.com/2014/10/09/1690/ I don't play gnd forces so I don't know how the patch really affected it. Air doesn't seem too much different. If anyone wants to give WT a try and hasn't played before (or has and wants some tips), ping me and I'll walk you thru the interface and provide some tips for getting started. I'd also be happy to squad up and fly some with you.

Patch 1.39 released! Sadly, no tanks yet Details at http://warthunder.com/en/news/537-Update-139-released-en Haven't tried to download the patch yet but forum indicates it is around 4.4GB....and current downloads are going slow. Probably a good overnight exercise if you try it.
  17. http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9247192/Facebook_spends_2B_on_virtual_reality_firm_but_analysts_are_skeptical Hopefully this doesn't mess up the release plans for Oculus Rift (having been thru the acquisition process, they can be somewhat disruptive). And hopefully doesn't change the goal to keep Oculus Rift inexpensive.
  18. Anyone looking for a new gaming headphone should take a look at Logitech Wireless Gaming Headset G930. They are on sale today on Amazon for $70 (list is $160 but normal price is ~$100-120). I have them and they've worked very well so far. Definitely nice not to be wired to the computer and they have a very good range....I can get 30+ feet indoors from the transceiver before they lose the connection - which is picked right back up when I come back in range. There were some server issues with the second part of the GE event today so Gaijin is adding an additional set of GE events this coming week. On 3 days this week, you can earn 100 GE with 7 wins during the 24 hour event period. The event periods are Mar 9 3:00pm thru Mar 10 3pm CT Mar 11 3:00pm thru Mar 12 3pm CT Mar 13 3:00pm thru Mar 14 3pm CT The official page announcing the events is at: http://warthunder.com/en/news/481-War-Thunder-Golden-Days-en

War Thunder is having another Golden Eagle event this weekend. There are two 4 hour time periods for the event where you can earn up to 300 GE from each period (so a max total of 600 GE). The time frame for the events is 20:00-24:00 Sat and 9:00-13:00 Sunday (central time). The criteria of the event is that you can earn 100 GE for your 2nd, 5th and 7th mission win during the event time periods. The link to the official page for the event is: http://warthunder.com/en/news/473-Spring-Golden-Battles-en EDIT: I'm not sure about the Sunday time conversion to CT. It is likely to be off by 1 hour since in its infinite wisdom, Congress has the US changing Daylight Saving Time on a different weekend than Europe. The official time for the second part of the event is 15:00 GMT to 19:00 GMT.

Is there any way to purchase additional permanent crafting slots? I know that you can get additional slots with a premium account and that you can purchase 1 hour slot additions but am wondering if there is any way to just purchase additional slots similar to how you can buy additional pack slots.

They just started the 3rd wave of CBT so OBT is probably still a ways off. They also opened up the planes side of the tech tree to allow more of the tier 1 planes than just the reserves. I haven't played yet so not sure if it is all the tier 1 planes or just a few. But definitely allowed for some of the real bombers to start participating....and the results sound a bit hilarious...there is a good video from Entac on him leading a squad of PBY bombers into a match and decimating the enemy tanks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NS8El6BeGMY#t=430 Some of the issues are: small map causing the tanks to be easier to find (NOTE: the enemy tanks are not being tagged with the red marker unless already spotted but due to the small map, it is basically just looking anywhere that blue marked tanks are NOT and you'll find the enemy) AA fire tracers make it easy to find any AA that may have been deployed and take it out quickly No one was really flying fighters ... that should resolve itself as fighter jocks go for te easy targets the low level bombers make. The capture points notifications are visible so if you see one being capture, you know you just need to drop a bomb on it and will get some kills...the capture points are relatively small which exacerbates the issue. Going to be interesting on how the developers react to this info. Hopefully does lead to bigger maps since the current ones are too small even when it was just tanks.

Update on Ground Units....this is from a Developers Diary post oncerning the next big patch to WT (1.39) Ground Forces A lot of work has been dedicated to our Ground Forces. It is too early to say if player controlled ground units will appear in 1.39. CBT is at full blast and many of CBT members think that the game can be released for open test, we still want to fix, check and finish a lot. Ground Forces may be released in 1.39 but most likely it won’t happen before Spring. The full posting is at http://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/108308-developers-diaries-139/ So it might be soon but much more likely another couple months.

Nope...and no ETA yet although they have talked about a third wave of CBT starting sometime in Feb so it is likely a couple months before open beta starts. I'm not thrilled with it so far. The maps are so small that there tends to be a lot of spawn camping...from across the map. On some of the maps, the enemy can get set up such that they can blast you as you try to leave the spawn area. I also haven't gotten the hang of the shooting yet...I tend to get one shot yet when I have everything lined up and the targeting indicator is green, I'll get 'no damage' or a minor hit at the best. On the plus side, they've added a lot of additional tanks,etc....for the Russians and Germans. Nothing for the other nations yet.
  25. Definitely go with the bigger pwr supply and make sure to stay with a highly rated brand (Corsair are good but check out the professional reviews on the specific model since all manufacturers can occasionally turn out duds). If the pwd supply hick-ups, it can take out a lot of the other components. Another choice with the video card is to stay with what you've chosen and then add another in SLI when SC releases. By then, there is a good chance the prices will have fallen significantly. SLI (or crossfire) don't double the effective stats but can get somewhere around 1.7 or 1.8 of what just a single of that card type can do. For comparisons, check out http://www.tomshardware.com/. It has a lot of good reviews on various types of components as well as overall benchmark results on cpu, gpu, etc. It also has system builder recommendations for low, medium and high end machines that provide recommendations for the components based on the price targets they've set for L, M, H. Cross check your component list with newegg.com. For all of the systems I've built, I've gotten most of my components from them and have had very good experiences and found the prices to usually be some of the best available. As Cav says, building a system is rather easy...in the distant past, the CPU could be a little difficult but with the zero insertion force (zif) sockets the have today, you just set it in and push down the clamp to lock it in. The only slightly tricky thing is ensuring you get the thermal compound spread properly (which you'd need to do if you're replacing the stock cpu fan with a water cooling setup...which I do recommend if it fits in the budget - works better and provides the option for over-clocking in the future if you so decide. For the thermal compound, I've had good luck with Artic Silver. For the OS, IF you get the oem version rather than a retail version (oem is cheaper) you might want to consider Win8. The UI is kludgy but it has better license terms than Win7. The OEM Win7 is bound to the computer you install it on which means that you could not build a new system in a couple years and just move that copy of Win7 to it whereas the oem Win8 will allow you to move to a new system. Might not matter because by then, there will likely be Win9 or something else that you'd want to move to or you may be giving/selling the old system to someone else in which case you'd need a new OS license anyway...but something to consider. I have Win8 and it works great for me. The only games I've had issues with are Crysis3 and DeadSpace - and I don't know if it is Windows or one of my drivers that is the problem...haven't bothered to really dig into the failures yet. Finally, you might consider getting a solid state drive in addition to the 1TB drive. Install the OS on it and everything else on the HDD. The SSD will dramatically speed up boot times (my system is ready to go in 10-20 seconds). The prices on SSDs have dropped dramatically over the past year...you can get a 120GB for under $80.
