STO Season 8 Dev Blog #53

Spire Featured Project #8 The discovery of the Solanae Dyson Sphere has provided a unique opportunity to fleets of all factions. The Romulan Republic is leading the Joint Command in charge of operations inside the Sphere, and they know that the Dyson Sphere is too immense for them to divert adequate resources for a full survey of it. As a result, Joint Command has started to assign liberated Spires to fleets in an effort to further exploratory efforts inside the Sphere. Similar to Fleet Starbases, Embassies and Dilithium Mines, special projects will become available from time to time for a fleet’s Spire. Completion of these special projects will unlock new features to expand the functionality and appearance of your Spire. Be quick, though – when a special project becomes available, it will only be available for a limited time; you must start the project before the end of the feature. Once you’ve started the project, you can keep working on it until it’s finished, even if the special event ends. As with Starbases, Embassies and Dilithium Mines, you can only work on one special project at a time, so act fast! Our next and final special featured project for the Fleet Spire is “Star Gazing.” Dyson Joint Command has authorized fleets, which have completed this project, access to a unique holo-emitting observation system console. The holo-projection is utilized to assist with exploration and mapping of the massive interior of the Solanae Dyson Sphere. Completing this project will grant access to the Spire interior’s Orrery. This special feature can be activated by interacting with a console in the central area of the Spire’s interior. This special project is available now until around when server maintenance starts on March 6, 2014 (or 7AM PST — whichever is earlier). We hope you are enjoying Season 8: The Sphere and we’ll see you in-game! Starfleet Advanced Dyson Science Destroyers Omega Class The Dyson Joint Command's engineering and scientific efforts within the Solanae Dyson Sphere have yielded incredible results. The Starfleet Corps of Engineers has been able to adapt the astonishing discoveries found at this artificial celestial structure to create starships that are inspired by the designs found at the sphere, but do not require the use of Omega particles. The Dyson Science Destroyers are first and foremost science vessels, but each is capable of entering Tactical Mode to significantly alter how the starship performs. The Starfleet Dyson Science Destroyer variants aren’t as sturdy as the Klingon Defense Force’s models, or stealthy as the Romulan Republic’s, but they have a slightly higher shield modifier to compensate. Below are the base stats shared by all three variants of the Starfleet Advanced Dyson Science Destroyers: Base Stats (for all Starfleet Advanced Dyson Science Destroyers) Faction: Federation Required Rank: Vice Admiral Availability: C-Store Hull Strength: 31,350 Shield Modifier: 1.457 Crew: 400 Weapons: 3 Fore, 3 Aft (+Solanae Dual Heavy Proton Cannons in Tactical Mode) Device Slots: 3 Bridge Officer Stations: 1 Ensign Tactical, 1 Lieutenant Commander Tactical, 1 Lieutenant Engineering, 1 Commander Science, 1 Lieutenant Universal Base Turn Rate: 12 degrees per second Impulse Modifier: 0.16 Inertia: 50 +15 Auxiliary Subsystems Can Equip Dual Cannons Subsystem Targeting Sensor Analysis Secondary Deflector Slot Tactical Mode (See explanation below) Dyson Reconnaissance Science Destroyer – Montgomery Class The Montgomery Class is an upgraded variant of the Dyson Science Destroyer. It features an additional Tactical console mod slot, improved hull and shield rating and comes equipped with the Proton Destabilizer Module Universal Console. This console allows you to draw power from your warp core to emit a devastating proton beam from your deflector focused on a nearby enemy. Periodically arcing waves of proton energy will lash out at foes nearby your targeted enemy dealing damage to all enemies affected. Specific Class Stats (in addition to the base stats listed above) Console Modifications: 4 Tactical, 2 Engineering, 4 Science Console – Universal – Proton Destabilizer Module Note: Unlocking the Dyson Reconnaissance Science Destroyer unlocks this ship for every Starfleet Vice Admiral character on an account. Dyson Strategic Science Destroyer – Omega Class The Omega Class is an upgraded variant of the Dyson Science Destroyer. It features an additional Engineering console mod slot, improved hull and shield rating and comes equipped with the Protonic Shielding Matrix Universal Console. This console allows your Dyson class starship to store and then divert tremendous amounts of proton particles to periodically reinforce your shields for a while. This will cause your starship to negate large amounts of damage every few seconds for a short time. Specific Class Stats (in addition to the base stats listed above) Console Modifications: 3 Tactical, 3 Engineering, 4 Science Console – Universal – Protonic Shield Matrix Note: Unlocking the Dyson Strategic Science Destroyer unlocks this ship for every Starfleet Vice Admiral character on an account. Dyson Surveillance Science Destroyer – Helios Class The Helios class is an upgraded variant of the Dyson Science Destroyer. It features an additional Science console mod slot, improved hull and shield rating and comes equipped with the Shield Inversion Projector Universal Console. This console allows your Dyson class starship to emit a devastating tachyon beam blast from your deflector, you can cause your foe's shields to briefly collapse in a wave of energy. The affected enemy will have their shields weakened and suffer heavy shield and hull damage. Allies within the wave will receive a large amount of shield healing. Specific Class Stats (in addition to the base stats listed above) Console Modifications: 3 Tactical, 2 Engineering, 5 Science Console – Universal – Shield Inversion Projector Note: Unlocking the Dyson Command Science Destroyer unlocks this ship for every Starfleet Vice Admiral character on an account. NOTE: The Console Mods listed on the ships above can be equipped in any console slot. They may only be equipped on Dyson Science Destroyer ship variants. You may only equip one of these mods per starship. Equipping all four pieces of the Solanae Advanced Technologies set will improve these consoles’ abilities. Unique Features Montgomery Class Tactical Mode By default the Dyson Science Destroyer is a Science Vessel. However, activating the Tactical Mode ability the starship will transform. Many science systems will be disabled or altered while some tactical systems will become active. When activating Tactical Mode the following occurs: Enables Dual Heavy Proton Cannon +15 Weapon Power +Turn Rate +Impulse Speed +Inertia Lt. Commander Tactical Bridge Officer seat is upgrade to Commander Tactical Commander Science Bridge Officer seat is downgraded to Lt. Commander Science Secondary Deflector is disabled Sensor Analysis is disabled Subsystem Targeting is disabled -15 Aux Power Tactical Mode may be deactivated at any time to return to the default Science Mode, but doing so incurs a 60 second cooldown on the transformation back to Tactical Mode. Solanae Dual Heavy Proton Cannons [Acc] [CrtH]x2 (Very Rare) These devastating weapons are only available when the Dyson Science Destroyer is in Tactical Mode and are built into the ship. They cannot be removed. When in tactical mode, the starship effectively has 4 Fore and 3 Aft weapon slots with one of the Fore slots automatically taken by the Solanae Dual Heavy Proton Cannons. These experimental weapons are already balanced to do comparable damage to more conventional energy types, and can be further enhanced by Consoles which enhance Cannons and/or Proton Damage. Solanae Advanced Technologies Set Caprimul Class The above consoles and the Solanae Secondary Deflector (found on the Anniversary reward Dyson ships) make up the 4 piece Solanae Advanced Technologies Set. Collecting and equipping all four pieces from this set will empower the powers provided by the consoles listed above. Below are the three set bonuses provided by the Solanae Advanced Technologies Set: Solanae Energy Lattice (2 piece bonus) Self: +Proton Damage Self: +Starship Shield System (Shield Max HP) Proton Energy Matrix (3 piece bonus) Reduces the cooldown on Dyson Science Destroyer console powers by 1 minute. This affects: Destabilized Proton Beam Protonic Shielding Shield Inversion Solanae Synergy (4 piece bonus) Upgrades all three Dyson Science Destroyer console powers: Destabilized Proton Beam: Will deal its damage over time much more quickly. Protonic Shielding: Activating this ability also heals shields of allies within 5km Shield Inversion: Allies affected also receive a shield hardness buff and shield heal over time Dyson Science Destroyer Bridge These starships feature the Dyson Science Destroyer bridge. While visiting your bridge, you will also be able to access your Account Shared Bank, move into a Small Craft, and contact different ship departments for Duty Officer Assignments. NOTE: You must have enough Ship Slots to commission the new ships. If you do not have enough space, you can purchase additional slots from the C-Store. NOTE: The above stats for all ships are subject to change. We hope you enjoy flying these powerful new Starfleet Advanced Dyson Science Destroyers as much as we enjoyed making them. All three will be available in the C-Store for individual sale (2,500 ZEN) or as a 3-pack bundle (5,000 ZEN; over 33% savings!) this Thursday, February 20th around 10AM PST. As the Klingon and Romulan factions also each have a 3-pack bundle of Advanced Dyson Science Destroyers, for even more savings, you can choose to purchase all 9 ships in a 9-pack bundle (10,000 ZEN; over 55% savings!). STO Dilithium 101

This monthly article features useful information about Dilithium, including what it is, how to earn it, and how to use it in-game. We’ll be featuring this article monthly, and adding to it as more questions about Dilithium arise. What is Dilithium? Beginning with the launch of Season 5: Call to Arms, Dilithium has become the major form of currency in Star Trek Online – it is primarily used to purchase in-game items, including ground and ship gear, starships, select Duty Officers and crafting materials, and is used to begin some Duty Officer Assignments. With the launches of Season 6, 7 and 8, Dilithium is also used in select Starbase, Embassy, Dilithium Mine and Spire Fleet Projects. How is Dilithium earned? Dilithium is primarily earned by completing in-game missions (PvP and PvE dailies, events, STFs, Duty Officer Assignments, spotlighted and qualified Foundry missions, etc.), and is awarded as Dilithium Ore. Players can also go mining for Dilithium Ore once per day on the Vlugta Asteroid Field, near Deep Space Nine, in the Beta Ursae Sector Block. Before this Ore can be spent, it must be refined. Players are able to refine up to 8,000 Dilithium Ore per day – 800 Day Veteran subscribers also have access to a special Duty Officer Assignment on Starfleet Academy (Fed), Klingon Academy (KDF), and New Romulus Command (Rom) that allows for extra Dilithium refining (1,000 extra for a 48 hour assignment). Gold members also have a special perk that allows them to refine Dilithium automatically upon logging in, up to one previous week’s worth. Also, the recent introduction of the Fleet Dilithium Mine Outpost has added more benefits for earning and refining Dilithium! Check out the full details on this new addition here. STOWiki.org has done a fantastic job creating a Dilithium information page that provides a full list of missions that award Dilithium, including amounts. You can check it out here. Refined Dilithium is also available via the in-game Dilithium Exchange, which can be accessed via the downward arrow on the mini-map. Here, you can exchange ZEN you’ve transferred into STO for Refined Dilithium, and vice-versa. It’s important to note that the Dilithium Exchange is a live marketplace – exchange rates are driven by the playerbase, depending on how much of one currency they are willing to trade for another, and such rates may fluctuate from moment to moment. How do I use Dilithium in-game? As mentioned, once Dilithium Ore is refined, it becomes a spendable currency. Many ships in-game require Dilithium to be purchased. Federation players can find Starship Requisitions at Earth Spacedock, Deep Space 9, Deep Space K-7 and Starbase 39-Sierra. Klingon players can find Starship Requisitions in the orbiting shipyard of Qo’noS. And Romulan players can find Starship Requisitions at the hubs of their allies, New Romulus Command, and the Flotilla. Players can also buy many different types of ground and space gear from various vendors across the galaxy. Federation players will find that Earth Spacedock is home to vendors who take Dilithium, and Klingon players will want to visit Qo’noS to spend their Dilithium. Romulans can visit vendors on the hubs of their allies, in addition to New Romulus Command and the Flotilla. Gear can also be purchased directly from the Dilithium Store on the minimap. If you are looking at crafting higher tier items at Memory Alpha, most recipes call for Common and Uncommon Unreplicateable Materials. These are purchased with Dilithium and can be obtained from a vendor on Memory Alpha (Fed), Qo’noS (KDF), or New Romulus Command (Rom), or through the Dilithium Store on the minimap. Select Duty Officers can be purchased with Dilithium from Lt. Ferra at Starfleet Academy (Fed), Lt. S’stas at Klingon Academy (KDF), and Centurion Velaar at New Romulus Command (Rom) – these Duty Officers are of Uncommon/ green and higher quality. As you participate in various Duty Officer Assignments, you will notice that some of them will require Dilithium. Similarly, Season 6: Under Siege introduced the new Fleet Advancement System. While some of the Starbase Fleet Projects your Fleet Officers decide to undertake may require large amounts of Dilithium, you can choose how much you would like to contribute at a given time – this allows for multiple fleetmates to contribute smaller amounts at a time if they wish. For those players that would like to “thank” the author of a Foundry mission you’ve recently enjoyed, at the end of the mission, along with your review, you can choose to leave a “tip” of refined Dilithium. Among other things, this helps authors fund the purchase of additional Foundry project slots, which means more Foundry missions for you to play! How do I use the Dilithium Exchange in-game? To access the Dilithium Exchange, click on the downward arrow on the mini-map and select “Dilithium Exchange” – this can also be accessed while browsing the Dilithium Store for items and clicking on “Buy Dilithium”, and through the button on the “Assets” tab of your inventory. Again, it’s important to note that the Dilithium Exchange is a live marketplace – exchange rates are driven by the playerbase, depending on how much of one currency they are willing to trade for another, and such rates may fluctuate from moment to moment. The following images provide more information on how to use the Exchange: A: This is the “Buy ZEN” tab. B: This section displays the top offers to sell ZEN. Example: row 1 tells us that there is 220,170 ZEN available for 125 Refined Dilithium per ZEN. C: This section displays any outstanding offers you have on the exchange. If you wish to cancel an offer, click on the offer to highlight it and then click the “Cancel Offer” button. Canceling an offer will put the Refined Dilithium you put onto the exchange into your “Exchange Balance” (F). D: This section is where you can decide how much Refined Dilithium you would like to offer to buy ZEN. All 3 fields may have values entered in them, and the “Total Dilithium to sell” field is automatically updated as you adjust the values above it*. Example: if you would like to submit an offer to buy 100 ZEN, you would put “100” in the “ZEN to buy” field, and then the amount of Refined Dilithium you would be willing to pay per ZEN acquired – the “Total Dilithium to sell” field would then update with the total Refined Dilithium you need in order to purchase 100 ZEN at that “Dilithium per ZEN” price. E: Once you have entered the information in the fields above (D), click the “Submit Offer To Buy” button to confirm and submit your offer to buy ZEN. When you enter a buy ZEN offer, all the dilithium for it is taken from you immediately. If you get the ZEN for a cheaper price, or you withdraw your offer before it is completely fulfilled, you get that dilithium back. NOTE: ZEN purchased via the Exchange are bound to Star Trek Online. If there are not existing sell offers that match your quantity and price, you might get part or none of your order, and it will be fulfilled later when there is a matching sell order. F: This section shows your current Exchange Balance. Canceling an offer will put the Refined Dilithium you put onto the exchange into this balance. Future offers will first pull from these balances and you can withdraw available Refined Dilithium or ZEN from your Exchange Balance at any time. G: This section shows your current character’s Refined Dilithium balance, and your account’s ZEN balance. A: This is the “Sell ZEN” tab. B: This section displays the top offers to buy ZEN. Example: row 1 tells us that there is 162,494 ZEN available for 123 Refined Dilithium per ZEN. C: This section displays any outstanding offers you have on the exchange. If you wish to cancel an offer, click on the offer to highlight it and then click the “Cancel Offer” button. Canceling an offer will put the ZEN you put onto the exchange into your “Exchange Balance” (F). D: This section is where you can decide how much ZEN you would like to offer to buy Refined Dilithium. All 3 fields may have values entered in them, and the “Total Dilithium to buy” field is automatically updated as you adjust the values above it*. Example: if you would like to submit an offer to sell 100 ZEN, you would put “100” in the “ZEN to sell” field, and then the amount of Refined Dilithium you are wanting to get per ZEN sold – the “Total Dilithium to buy” field would then update with the total Refined Dilithium you would get if your offer matched or beat an outstanding offer on the exchange. E: Once you have entered the information in the fields above (D), click the “Submit Offer To Sell” button to confirm and submit your offer to sell ZEN. When you enter a sell ZEN offer, all the ZEN for it is taken from you immediately. If you get the Dilithium for a cheaper price, or you withdraw your offer before it is completely fulfilled, you get that ZEN back. NOTE: ZEN placed in the Exchange will permanently bind them to Star Trek Online. F: This section shows your current Exchange Balance. Canceling an offer will put the ZEN you put onto the exchange into this balance. You can withdraw available Refined Dilithium or ZEN from your Exchange Balance at any time, but you need to manually withdraw the ZEN in order to use it in a new sell offer. G: This section shows your current character’s Refined Dilithium balance, and your account’s ZEN balance. *If buying ZEN, the Refined Dilithium price must be set between 25 and 500 Refined Dilithium and offers must be set to at least 1 ZEN and no more than 5,000 ZEN. If selling ZEN, offers must be set to at least 1 ZEN and no more than 5,000 ZEN and the Refined Dilithium price must be set between 25 and 500 Refined Dilithium. View the full article

STO Season 8 Dev Blog #49

New Ship Materials Greetings Captains! The folks here at the Cryptic shipyard have some good news for many of you. We're adding a few new materials to a large portion of playable ships. Keep reading to get the specifics. With the release of the Mogh Class Battle Cruiser we introduced a new ship material. This material was originally going to be unique to the Mogh, but we decided the various Klingon Refits and special ships needed some additional customization options, and this new material was a perfect solution to that. It is also a pleasure to announce that we have added an additional material option to the Mogh. Much in the same way that the Federation Avenger Class Battle Cruiser has a black hull material variant, the Mogh is receiving a similar extra material as well. Please note, that this new material will remain exclusive to the Mogh (and fleet Mogh). Klingon Ships This addition of a special material to many purchasable Klingon vessels will be on par with the way special materials are part of similar ships of the Romualn Republic and Federation factions. Below is a list of ships that will unlock the new material upon claiming them. The variants of the ships listed below will thusly be granted the Type 3 material as well. B'Rotlh Class Bird of Prey Qaw'Dun Class Bird of Prey Ning'tao Class Bird of Prey HoH'SuS Class Bird of Prey Fleet HoH'SuS Class Bird of Prey Puyjaq Class Raptor SuQob Class Raptor K't'inga Class Battle Cruiser Vor'Kang Class Battle Cruiser Bortasqu' Class Battle Cruiser Korath Class Temporal Science Vessel Peghqu’ Heavy Destroyer Tu’Duj Fighter You can find the new material in ship customization labeled as "Type 3" – If you already own one of these ships, you might have to reclaim the vessel from the in-game Zen store. Federation Ships But, that's not all. If you're a fan of Starfleet ships, that long-missing "Type 5" material is making a return. In an attempt to constantly update ship content, this material has been revamped, and added to all Starfleet ships, completely for free. Just head over to ship customization and check it out. This material will be available on all future Starfleet ships as part of the standard array of materials. In the end, we are very happy with how these new materials have turned out, and hope that you enjoy them as well. Make sure to visit your local ship tailor and try these new materials on any of the vessels listed above that you own. The new ship switching technology introduced with Season: 8.5 gives you the perfect opportunity to swap your ships out and catch a glimpse of these new materials in action.
