So uh, anybody played this? I just got it off of Steam and I played it for almost 8 hours straight. It is ridiculously good.
The story, the crazy characters, the mutants, the enemies, the background music. Everything is so well done.
One of the coolest parts about this game so far has been the few different live radio "feeds" you receive on your little all-in-one hoopajoop device. It's great to run around a post-apocalyptic wasteland blasting giant mutants to the sounds of Billie Holliday and Bing Crosby or the Star Spangled Banner and Hail to the Chief.
And I haven't even tried the multiplayer yet.
I wish I could give away one of the earlier plot devices, but I won't because you'll want to see it for yourself. I'll just say it's the less noble path to be taken.
EDIT: I forgot we have spoiler thingies!
DO NOT MOUSE OVER UNLESS YOU WANT TO SEE ZEE SPOILER!
Blowing up that shitty little town just so the "rich" guy doesn't have to see it on the horizon anymore from his palatial tower was one of the coolest things I have ever done. The nuke explosion was worth every pang of regret for killing those worthless layabouts.

I'm waiting to see if they release the mod tools for the game. I'm a No Mutants Allowed (http://www.nma-fallout.com) sympathizer, and if it's anything like Oblivion it will need mods for me to really get into it :)

It's like Oblivion with huge fuckin' guns and head explosions.

did any of you play the previous fallout games? Yep, both 1 & 2 were great. I tended to play as a diplo-sniper with a high luck score.
I also like Morrowind and Oblivion.

Ive been playing it since Thursday. I bought it on Tuesday but the fucktarded developers decided it wasn't going to be compatible with ATI utility software.
I love the game, its so much better than Oblivion as far as I'm concerned. The world is a bit smaller but the terrain and atmosphere make up for it by a lot. The story is interesting, what little I've played of it. I have been wandering around, exploring buildings and killing stuff.
They optimized the Havoc engine as well it seems, the game runs so much better on my pc than Oblivion does, and this is with one video card disabled.
Spoiler regarding Megaton --->
If you chose not to blow up Megaton you are given a house there as a reward, the storage is quite useful and its nice that its so early in the game. Dunno what storage you get if you blow the city up though.
Nother spoiler about a certain kick ass weapon I found...
There is a crashed alien vessel in the upper middle of the map between old olafwhaeversville somewhere along that road. The alien corpse has a blaster pistol. This is easily the most powerful weapon ive encountered so far, it is a pistol that vaporizes in one hit most humanoids and kills those deathclaws in 2 hits. UBER.

You do get alternative housing once that mission is complete and the explosion is exploded.

I got it on the 360 because I was doubtful my PC could really handle it well, but I freakin' love it. The VATS is. just. beautiful.
And the dog is fun, too.

There is a funny side quest relating to that tower. Seems the Ghouls want to live there (the sentient good guy Ghouls) but the racist tower dwellers don't like this idea. You can either let feral ghouls in or convince the tower dwellers to be nice.
Who gives out the guidebook quest if you kill Moira in Megaton?

If you go back to Megaton, Moira's still alive but a ghoul. You can still continue her survival book quests, but she bases out of Underworld now.
The only gripe I have about this game is the way it ends, but other than that it's one of my favorite games of '08.
In regards to that alien pistol you found Cam, if you do a quest in Rivet City called the Replicated Man, you can end up getting a really high damage plasma rifle from the guy you're supposed to find. As long as you take the "good" ending to the quest, though.
