Hello!
Here's our peaceful question of the week with comments straight from our developer team. Enjoy!

This time we're straying away from the path of violence and mayhem to take a close look at what Earthrise can provide to players who decide not to shred blood in the vast island grounds of Enterra:

"We know that Earthrise will feature a deep and sophisticated economic model as well as robust crafting and resource collection. However, what are some examples other non-combatant roles/skills/activities will Earthrise offer players?"

Players will have some unique opportunities when it comes to playing a peaceful member of the new human society. The recovering humanity slowly rebuilds its work market and special skills and knowledge becomes important in everyone's career - from the simple virtual librarian to the executive administrators of Continoma. Offline professions will be available from various NPCs in the game world and will provide lucrative income given players gather the needed skills and job experience to prove worthy for an important position. Players who decide to concentrate on the fluctuating economic situation will be able to take opportunity of temporary crisis on the good market and will be able to build serious fortune while mercenary soldiers of fortune who are paid on his account wreak havoc at the mining facilities that others come to protect from the mutant infestation. Things can get nasty in the high ranks of the guild aristocracy where players who lead influential guilds will be able to decide the future economic development of the island, and those who serve in their ranks will be able to take an advantage of it. From sharp goods market wits to political savvy or just good ol' worker's ethic, all of them are rewarded in Earthrise.

No matter what your style, looks like a lot to do. Comments below.

I brought this up on the Earthrise forum but figured I'd bring it up here too. Is anyone not impressed at all? I mean, the only stuff they brought up was playing the market and crafting, guild politics, and offline career advancement.

Certainly there has to be more non-combat skills and activities then just that...?

I think it was worded to avoid the fact that there is so far little to do other than what has already been mentioned. I liked the ever so slight semi omission that the "a lot" of stuff was offline profession type stuff.

I gotta agree with Kav on this one... I think that's one of the few QoTW threads on the official ER forums that I haven't commented on since I joined. Wtb secret underground clubhouses with awesome music! ;)

Y'all entering the costume contest? I was debating making up my own version of the monster with no lips that has green gem/goo things all over its body, seems like it could be pretty easy to mod up with basic haloween supplies, I would get two masks and cut em to replicate that no lips and torn skin effect, get some fake green gems to replicate the tumors, maybe keep a ragged shirt on so as to avoid any complicated body paint. It could probably be done for under $20.

I think I'm just going to brain wash some twenty year old into being Cynthia and then take total credit for it.

Back to the question....

What the hell?!?!?!

First, like others mentioned, they didn't actually state very many things you can do ONLINE non-combat related, and what they did mention was get credits in order to pay mercs to fight for you.

So, non combat peeps can get money to by NPCs to fight for them. Certainly there is SOMETHING that doesn't have an end result in combat?

This is pretty vague, so I really can't react at the moment. Who knows what any of these "positions" are, how they'll affect factional involvement and advancement, and if traders will profit. Although traders will always find a way to profit.

I'm not concerned, since I have no idea what else there is to do that isn't "we take over the world" type material :)
