Hey,

So, it came as a surprise to me that the SciFi channel created a new Flash Gordon series. I'm wary about it but hopeful. Is there anyone who has seen any of the episodes yet? I'd love to hear what you thought of it. I think it's been on the air since August so there is a good half a SciFi season of episodes. If not I plan on watching it the first new episode of the second half of the season this Friday so if anyone cares to hear my impression of it just ask.

The only thing I know about it is that it uses the original Queen theme song.

I'm gonna rez this thread.

I've been watching it since the beginning, it was painfully slow for most of the first part, but its picked up quite a bit, the turning point was the episode about the great sorrow, the explanation for why the planet's water supply was contaminated.

Spoilers------------------------------------------------V--V--

As it turns out the inhabitants of Mongo have this nifty mineral that provides massive amounts of energy at the cost of being somewhat unstable. At one point in the past, about 1000 years ago they were very technologically advanced, and had even constructed two moons to accompany the mineral rich natural moon orbiting their planet. Unfortunately the mineral they had harvested was unstable and an industrial accident happened, causing all of this mineral on the planet to explode, raining death on the inhabitants. About 1000 survivors were picked to go to the artificial moon, while the rest of the planet went extinct.

Upon returning to the planet they found the water supply was tainted, drinking it causes massive genetic mutations, most of them bad. The culture adapted to be somewhat anti technology, but they obviously use what tech they had, they just don't use the fancy element that blew the planet up, and they don't have space travel anymore.

The great sorrow is commemorated each year on its anniversary.

End spoiler------------------------------------

Anyway Ming is a dictator, a douchebag, and a not really nice guy, story takes off from there. I like it now that it has a purpose.

I saw a few of the beginning episodes and I know what you mean by slow. I'm glad to hear it's picked up. I'll have to catch one of the new episodes
