I saw it at midnight with my BFF last night and then again at 0430 with my GF. Wow. It's better then Batman Begins. I've never liked Heath Ledger but that guy should get an Oscar. Aaron Ekchart is pretty amazing too. What's interesting is that Harvey Dent (Eckhart) and the Joker (Ledger) both have more screen time then Batman/Wayne. Not combined, like, they both just have more screen time then he does.

It's an amazing film. I think it actually will win Picture of the Year. It's that good.

Edit: Spoiler stuff below. If you don't want to see it don't mouse over it.

A couple of the things I was really impressed with. I absolutely fucking loved the scene sort of at the beginning where all of the mob bosses are meeting and the Joker walks in. He puts that pencil down and asks if everyone if they want to see a magic trick. If they want to see the pencil disappear. Then he slammed that dudes eye into the standing pencil and the guy dies and the Joker is like, "Tada!" That was fucking pure film gold. I also like it when the black mob guy is like, "Do you think you can steal sixty-eight million dollars from us and just get away with it?" And the Joker replies, "Yes..."

A lot of reviews said there were too many themes going on in the movie but I have no fucking clue what they're talking about. There's the two primary ones of Harvey Dent displacing Batman as a hero, which both Bruce and Harvey actually wanted, and then about Bruce struggling with turning himself in so as to prevent more deaths.

I loved when Alfred told the story about the bandit in Burma who would steal the gems and then throw them away just to fuck with other people. It was a great analogy to the Joker.

That chase scene in the under street was awesome too. My favorite scene was when the SWAT truck was pushed into the river by the semitruck.

I also thought Nolan (the director) did a great job convincing us that Gordon really died. Now, for us Batman fans we know for a fact that he becomes commissioner so it's obvious to us that he wasn't dead (because he was only a lieutenant at the time I think) but to the people I saw it with they had no idea. And Rachel Dawes dies! Tragic but needed. And once again Afred (Michael Caine) just does something that is so typically Alfred by taking the letter Rachel wrote Bruce away just when Bruce is like, "Rachel was going to wait for me. Dent can never know." And then Alfred burns it and voice overs, "Sometimes the truth just isn't good enough," or something to that effect.

The whole movie reminded me a lot of Memento. In the end The Dark Knight was way, way more of a psychological thriller than a comic book movie which is what made it so good. It was a thriller that just happened to include a super hero but that element was really secondary in a way.

Plus the ending was really amazing when Gordon and Batman are standing over Harvey's unconcious body after Harvey had just murdered five or six people and Batman explained how he needed to take the fall for Harvey's murder so as not jeopardize everything Harvey did. I loved the dialogue when Gordon, Batman, and Dent are standing there at the end of the movie and Batman goes on to explain how the Joker targeted Harvey because Harvey was the best of them.

I also really liked Gordon's speech at the end about how Harvey was the hero Gotham needed while Batman was the one it deserved. Simply amazing.

Sorry, I'm just gushing over this film. I've already seen it twice and can't wait to see it again!

The Dark Knight is officially bigger than Jesus (who?). The movie raked in $155.34 million opening weekend beating out Spidey 3. I almost wonder how that could be it considering Spiderman 3 sucked ass and TDK is the greatest movie ever made by man.
