Today the devs over at MastHead studios answered some fan questions about their upcoming MMORPG, Earthrise! Read exciting answers to exciting questions and get a free shot of Patron at the very end (I would if I could hand them to you through our website but they haven't coded a module for that yet).

Anyways, I even had two or three questions answered so go me.

We have read about guild's city, and the control building, administrative buildings, turrets, etc. But what can you tell us about housing? <[MS]RaynerApe (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dRaynerApe,isnick)>Offline Professions will allow characters to earn additional income as well as receive job-based achievements and favors while their character is not adventuring on the territory of Enterra. Players will receive two types of job experience - career experience and total job experience.
<[MS]RaynerApe (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dRaynerApe,isnick)>Career experience is like reputation and can be traded for favors and achievements. Total Job Experience accumulates with character's all job history and allows him to get better paying jobs, as long as he covers the remaining requirements - namely, Education skills.

<[MS]Ostiak (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dOstiak,isnick)>Not really, Earthrise's combat system will be more dynamic, using an ability will take less time and will be easier

<zigzag (irc://stratics.frws.com/zigzag,isnick)> *Kavadas* Will Earthrise support locational damage? And if so, will models feature multiple hitboxes like in FPSs or will it be calculation based like traditional RPG combat?
<[MS]RaynerApe (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dRaynerApe,isnick)>Earthrise will not feature locational damage. We want to avoid giving player skill too much favor - if we did, Counter Strike wizkids would easily be headshotting everyone in sight. Instead, we will implement item qualities and effects that simulate the effect of locaitonal damage, but it would be based on finetuning your equipment effect rather than pure dynamic gameplay.

<zigzag (irc://stratics.frws.com/zigzag,isnick)>*TyrusDark* To what extent are vehicles expected to play a part in Earthrise? common sights in industry, travel, and combat? or rarer and more specialized roles only?
<[MS]RaynerApe (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dRaynerApe,isnick)>Vehicles in Earthrise fall in two groups - casual and mechanoids. Casual vehicles will have only transportation role and will require no investment in fuel (so you can forget those ever-hiking gas prices).
<[MS]RaynerApe (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dRaynerApe,isnick)>Mecha will have huge impact in almost all areas. They will be a firepower to fear, they will have incredible carrying capacity and they will be able to harvest special resource in a dangerous, hazardous envinronment. But they will require players to invest in fuel and this will require players to use them wisely.

<[MS]Ostiak (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dOstiak,isnick)>yes, che Meacha vehicles will need fuel, but they are battle vehicles, RaynerApe elaborated on that

<zigzag (irc://stratics.frws.com/zigzag,isnick)> *TyrusDark* you said earlier that skills won't have passive effects: does this mean, that, for example, training with "rifle" will only allow the use of "better" rifles, but won't inherently make us "better" with them? (and by implication, does this mean all characters are theoreticall "equal" in generic "aiming"?)
<[MS]RaynerApe (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dRaynerApe,isnick)>Training in Rifle will unlock Rifle oriented Abilities and Tactics. If you do not use these Abilities and Tactics while shooting with a rifle, you are not using the potential of your skill; there's nothing to differentiate you from another player who does the same, with player skill in aiming being equal.
<[MS]RaynerApe (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dRaynerApe,isnick)>But using your skills will require you to actually combine Abilities and Tactics and build your own strategy in using your skill with that weapon.

<[MS]Ostiak (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dOstiak,isnick)>No, we don't plan for multiple seats, vehicles will be individual. Our focus will be on the character, not the vehicles

<zigzag (irc://stratics.frws.com/zigzag,isnick)>*fr0gg3r* Will there be differences between sorts of fuel? I mean, will there be better kinds of fuel?
<[MS]RaynerApe (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dRaynerApe,isnick)>The only vehicles that will require fuel are the exoskeleton mechanoids. They will require only one type of fuel, to streamline its usage and trade.

<zigzag (irc://stratics.frws.com/zigzag,isnick)> *TyrusDark* Earlier it was announced parties/squads would be six members.. there is some concern among the community that this will be very restricting for coordinating movements in large gangs, is there a "larger" army system in place, or will it have to be done via voice comms?
<[MS]RaynerApe (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dRaynerApe,isnick)>Parties are limited to six players to allow simple, tight coordination within a small team of players. Still, Parties will be able to sign friendships between each other to form alliances of parties, each party having its own Party Leader. We are still working on what capabilities will that friendship allow players to form an army on the fly. For a real army though, we recommend building a Guild.

<[MS]RaynerApe (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dRaynerApe,isnick)>You can craft almost every object in the game. The things you cannot craft are: envinronment, players, mobs, new game mechanics to favor your playstyle.

<[MS]RaynerApe (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dRaynerApe,isnick)>Most of the time you will recover components - either technological (parts, resources) or biological (tissue, DNA).
<[MS]RaynerApe (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dRaynerApe,isnick)>Still, when it makes common sense to have mobs that drop complete items - for example, bandits dropping their weaponry - you will have a chance for that happening. Occasionally these items will vary in their quality and you might stumble on rare replica or powerful modded variant that will give you an edge.

<[MS]Ostiak (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dOstiak,isnick)>Territory conquest is an important part of our game design, and there were a lot of discussions regarding this questions. The answer is yes, we have planned for that and unless the attackers stay 24 hours awake, there is no possibility for them to conquer the whole island

<zigzag (irc://stratics.frws.com/zigzag,isnick)>*Xyleya* when there was talking of bases... selfdestruct was mentioned. will there be some mechanic to interrupt the selfdestruct?
<[MS]RaynerApe (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dRaynerApe,isnick)>Absolutely. But it will be a tricky skill to use, because it will take time on it's own, so expect a game of seconds between detonation and turning it off, and there will be great deal or risk insolved for the person doing the hard job.

<zigzag (irc://stratics.frws.com/zigzag,isnick)> *Kavadas* Will there be any type of item decay, permanent or otherwise, featured in the game?
<[MS]RaynerApe (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dRaynerApe,isnick)>The whole game economy is based on the fact that every single item decays with use or damage dealt to it. As items decay, they can be repaired but despite their durability returns to maximum, their quality will deteorate slowly. Eventually, every item will get useless and will have to be scrapped.

<zigzag (irc://stratics.frws.com/zigzag,isnick)> *Bryan* An issue I see in a lot of the MMORPGs out there is that there is a lot of people trying to sell the in-game currency, power-leveling, etc. What will be done in Earthrise to combat this?
<[MS]Ostiak (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dOstiak,isnick)>We will stand strongly against such type of actions and will try to minimize the power leveling and in-game currency sales. How we will do that is another question - our plans are to develop a lot of observation tools and have the game admins watch for such behaviour.

<zigzag (irc://stratics.frws.com/zigzag,isnick)>*commi3* What kinds of AI can we expect from mobs, will it be basic, will there be creature behavior or will we actually get to have some challenging NPC opponents beyond just having higher attributes?
<[MS]RaynerApe (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dRaynerApe,isnick)>We're still working on the AI routlines so we cannot release too much details about it, aside from the fact that we will implement a complex AI system that will allow for considerable "individualism" shown by each non-player, with each of them carrying specific behavior that players might or might not expect from it.
<[MS]RaynerApe (irc://stratics.frws.com/%5bMS%5dRaynerApe,isnick)>So no more same behavior from every mob of the same type. Expect to see brave heroes and dastardly cowards who cry for help, who use their abilities wisely and those who don't.
